About Us
Our Beliefs
No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life's journey, you are welcome at Lakeview United Church of Christ. We are a community of faith that celebrates diversity and together strives to fulfill our mission to reach out through God's spirit by involving, serving, and learning in this community and the world.
The United Church of Christ was formed by the merger of four major Protestant denominations in 1957. Our roots go back to the earliest settlers of this country. Our faith story is over 2,000 years old. Our thinking is not.
We are a people that continue to discern and be inspired by a still speaking God.
We spread the message of God's extravagant welcome, reaching out especially to those who have felt there is no room for them within Christianity and the church - the excluded and alienated, the spiritually homeless, the questioning. Come to the party. Join us on our journey.
Our Vision: Reaching Out Through God's Spirit by Involving, Serving and Learning
In 2009 leaders of the church proposed that Lakeview build on its current strengths by adopting the above statement of vision. The Lakeview community wishes to nurture current members and invite others into a life that lets us live out Christ's love. By involving we mean offering avenues to let us get to know each other from putting on a community play to organizing a car show. Serving others is something we do as a response to the example Jesus set for us. Lakeview UCC has a rich history of local and world-wide mission contributions.
Our congregation joins with other local UCC churches in sending representatives to the Kenyan Health Clinic project each year. Finally, UCC congregations are always interested in learning more about God's world and our role in it. We welcome your doubts, we embrace intelligent striving for truth, and we encourage your faith questions. We are a people that continue to discern and be inspired by a still speaking God.
How did the United Church of Christ come to be?
Throughout the history of the UCC, congregations have chosen the path of inclusion to stress unity among believers. Read the Short Course in the History of the United Church of Christ.
