Welcome To Lakeview UCC
Lakeview Announcement

Summer School Opportunity - For the Congregation!

Starting at 9:00 A.M. Sunday, June 29th, and the following nine Sundays, we will be showing twenty-five minute videos where some of the leading Christian scholars of our time give their answers to some of the pertinent (and difficult!) questions of our age. (Like...If God is Good...How Come Families Starve in Darfur?"...."How Come an Earthquake Kills Some 80,000 People in China?"..."Is There Really a Heaven...and a Hell?", etc.) No, they don't all agree - they are human like everyone else and they disagree at times just like we do over who should be our next president, etc. But, the point is, here are challenging questions of our time discussed by scholars of our time. Each week, following the DVD, we will discuss the issues raised. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers...the value for us is that we are helped to think and form answers for ourselves. Ralph Silvis will be guiding the discussion. The videos come highly recommended for lay people. There will be a charge of $15 for the 10 sessions to help defray the cost of the videos. We look forward to meaningful sessions starting June 29th at 9:00 A.M.

Blood Pressure Screening

Are you curious about your blood pressure numbers?
Will it be a little while until you see your doctor again?
Can't quite figure out how those grocery-store cuffs work?

Following worship on Sunday, August 10th, Marian Beauford, an R.N. will be available in the Narthex to take your blood pressure.   She would like to make this service available at least on a regular basis on either the 2nd or 3rd Sundays of each month.  So, bring your singing voice to church for Music Sunday that day, and then offer your upper arm for BP readings following the service.

Lakeview Book Club - Join Us!

Lakeview Book Group Meets Thursday, August 14 at 7:30 PM at Donna Wyatt’s house (7170 Gregory Creek in West Chester). We will be discussing Anne Tyler’s “Digging to America”—the story of two families and what it means to be American. Please join us—we only start with the book! It’s a great way to get to know others while exploring a variety of topics!

All-Church Gathering

Following worship on Sunday, August 24, join us for lunch as we will have an All-Church Gathering for the promised mid-year updates on our budget and to generate new programming ideas.  Details to follow in the weekly bulletin.

Lakeview KickOff Sunday

Mark your calendars now for Sunday, September 7th!  It's the beginning of our church school season. We will celebrate the Word of God set to music during worship then enjoy a wonderful lunch and more music.
Our special guests for the day are "Sowing Seeds", a four-piece band from Bellbrook Ohio which specializes in Contemporary Christian music.  They offer a positive and uplifting message in song.  Young and old alike will enjoy the rhythms and harmonies produced by the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals.

Just For Us Ladies Group

Our next luncheon will be at O’Charley’s, which is at 5262 Fields Ertel Rd. on Thursday September 11, 2008 @ 12:30.
Those wishing to carpool contact Joyce Lohstroh or Janet Cullen. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway by the church office.
Hope to see everyone come, we do have a great time

Save The Date!

Hold September 21 for Lakeview's Annual Pig Roast!

Current + 5 = You Help Us Thrive!

After reviewing our income and expenses, the Finance Committee has determined that we are likely to face a shortfall by the end of the summer. Therefore we are immediately initiating a drive urging each member to stay current with his/her pledge and to add $5 per week if at all possible. Since the summer is typically a time of lower attendance due to travel – please try to get your pledge in ahead of your absence.

Further, think of skipping something that you consider a luxury, maybe that extra Starbucks coffee or one fast food lunch each week and contributing that savings to Lakeview.

Be assured we are also investigating cost cutting measures. Plus we will be offering ways that members can volunteer their time to help us save.
